How does the lacquer work on the hair?

Although hairspray is more associated with the final finish in women's hairstyles, men can take advantage of its benefits. Hairspray is a spray that contains industrial polymers, or molecules that form a chain.

These most common lacquer polymers are polyvinylpyrrolidone, a water soluble polymer that is used in the pharmaceutical industry. The other polymer is polyvinyl acetate. By mixing both components, they add hold and support to the hair.

As soon as you add hairspray to the hair, these two substances promote that the hair fibers stick together. The lacquer dries and these polymers unite , leaving the hair in the middle, which is 'fixed' as in an invisible network.

Lacquer brands seek a balance between fixing power and flexibility. Since the late 1990s lacquer manufacturers had to reduce certain fixing components and add more water to their formulation.

The lacquers with the highest water content fix the hair less than those of the 80s, where we saw hairstyles that hardly lost shape even after hours.

For the liquid to be expelled by the aerosol they carry a 'propellant gas'. It is usually liquefied gas under pressure that forces the lacquer to come out and produces a kind of mist. The FDA has banned the use of certain propellant gases, such as chlorofluorocarbons and vinyl chloride in hairspray for not considering them safe. Today others like isobutane are used.

Lacquers also have a solvent that is usually alcohol. Generally lacquers hair have low toxicity if used correctly, but if contact eyes or skin area should be washed as quickly as possible.

How to use hairspray for men

·         The first thing in both men and women, comb the hair as you want it to be, with the blow dryer, combing with your fingers or according to your style.

·         If the man has short hair, instead of applying the lacquer directly to the hair, do it on the hand. Wait a few seconds and run your hand through the areas you want to fix. In this way you can gradually work your hair, while you will spend less hairspray.

·         Once you have fixed the hair as you want, wash your hands.

·         Cover your eyes with one hand, (or with a mask), press the lacquer button just above your head about 25 cm , then let it rain down on your hair.

If nIf ecessary make the last adjustments to the hair. Then do not touch it anymore, if you touch your hair after the lacquer, soon you will end up breaking the union of those polymers and the lacquer will stop playing its role.
